RESUMEN

Este artículo consiste en la traducción de las Primera y Segunda Partes (“Naturaleza y contenido del croquis” y “El diseño del Croquis”) del libro “El Croquis de Geografía regional y económica”, obra escrita por el geógrafo francés Roger Brunet, y publicado en París, Francia, por la Societé d’Edition d’Enseignement Supérieur, en 1962.

Este trabajo es “fruto de la experiencia” de Roger Brunet, quien fuera director de los trabajos prácticos de Geografía Regional y de Geografía Económica en el Instituto de Geografía de Toulouse, Francia. A pesar de contar con cincuenta años de antigüedad, es una excelente guía para la elaboración y diseño del Croquis de Geografía, mapa de síntesis, tanto para profesores como estudiantes de las carreras de Profesorado y Licenciatura.

Por otra parte, sus enunciados y consideraciones no sólo no han perdido vigencia (salvo en las herramientas utilizadas para el diseño del croquis: lápices, plumas, tintas, compás, etc, corrientes en los años 60, y cuyo tratamiento hemos excluido en esta traducción) sino que ha sido prácticamente la única obra en su especialidad que, hasta el momento llegara a nuestras manos.

Su importancia también radica en que, además de brindar detalladamente los pasos a seguir, la información a recabar, su tratamiento, selección y representación, la clasificación y la jerarquía de los hechos, los tipos de correlaciones y la definición de los tipos regionales, cuenta con abundantes ejemplos prácticos, que facilitan su entendimiento.

El libro se encuentra dividido en una Introducción y cinco grandes “Partes”, que a su vez se subdividen en capítulos y subcapítulos, en los que se van presentando y analizando los temas relacionadas con el objeto específico de la publicación.

En la Introducción enuncia una serie de conceptos acerca de la importancia de la Geografía Regional y de la elaboración del Croquis. La Primera Parte, se refiere a la Naturaleza y Contenido del Croquis y, en los capítulos siguientes va detallando sucesivamente, las cualidades que debe poseer un croquis geográfico, sus fuentes, la selección de los hechos, su confrontación, los tipos de correlaciones, las etapas de clasificación de los hechos, su jerarquía y los tipos regionales. En la Segunda Parte, se ocupa del Diseño del Croquis; en este caso realiza un pormenorizado análisis sobre las reglas de la representación cartográfica, las precauciones gráficas que se deben tener en cuenta y la presentación del croquis, así como también las nociones principales para la elaboración de la leyenda. La Tercera Parte, probablemente la más importante, trata sobre las Figuras y sus grandes tipos: figuras aisladas, de superficie, las curvas, las relaciones entre las diferentes figuras y, a continuación brinda numerosos ejemplos sobre los datos fisiográficos y los hechos humanos y los símbolos más utilizados en su representación. La Cuarta Parte, se refiere a Los aspectos particulares de los Croquis Geográficos, como por ejemplo, los títulos del mapa, el uso de las estadísticas y los tipos de mapas, diagramas, bloques diagramas y la reproducción de croquis. Por último, la Quinta Parte, denominada Ejercicios, comprende una serie de croquis a manera de ejemplos de representación, con sus correspondientes textos explicativos.

SUMMARY

This article is a translation of the First and Second Parts ("Nature and contents of the croquis” and “The croquis design") work written by the French geographer Roger Brunet, and published in Paris, France, for the Societe d'Edition d'Enseignement Supérieur in 1962.

This work is "based on Roger Brunet’s experience", who was the practicals work director of Regional Geography and Economic Geography at the Toulouse Geography Institute, France. Despite having fifty years old, is an excellent guide for the Geography Croquis, synthesis map development and design, both for teachers and students of the Faculty and Degree careers.

Moreover, his statements and considerations not only remain current (except in the tools used to design the croquis: pencils, pens, inks, compass, etc, commons in the 60s, and whose treatment we have excluded in this translation), but has been virtually the only work in his field, until this moment, came to our hands.

Its importance also lies in that, in addition to providing detailed steps, the information to be gathered, its processing, selection and representation, classification and hierarchy of facts, the types of correlations and the definition of regional types, count with abundant examples, which facilitate their understanding

The book is divided in an Introduction and five big "Parts", which are also subdivided in chapters and subchapters, in which the themes related to the specific subject of the publication are presented an analyzed s related to the specific subject.

In the Introduction enounces a number of concepts about the importance of Regional Geography and the croquis drawing. The First Part refers to the Nature and Content of the Croquis and, in the following chapters it details on the qualities a Geographical croquis must possess, its sources, the facts selection, its confrontation, the types of correlations, the stages of facts classification, hierarchy and regional types. In the Second Part, deals with the croquis design, in this case provides a detailed analysis of cartographic representation rules, the graphic precautions that must be taken into account and the croquis presentation, as well as the main notions for the legend elaboration.

The Third Part, probably the most important, is about the Figures and their main types: isolated and surface figures, curves, relations between the different figures, and then provides numerous examples of physiographic data and human facts and the most used symbols in their representation. The Fourth Part refers to particular aspects of the Geographical croquis, such as for example, the map titles, the use of statistics and the types of maps, diagrams, block diagrams and croquis reproduction. Finally, the Fifth Part, called Exercises, comprises a series of croquis as representations examples, with corresponding explanatory text.
